This page is dedicated to giving detailed definitions of terms that may not be common to you, but are common in our Medical Community.

  1. Antioxidant: Substances that may protect your cells against the effects of free radicals. Free radicals are molecules produced when your body breaks down food, or by environmental exposures like tobacco smoke and radiation. Free radicals can damage cells, and may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.

  2. Cascade effect: A chemical or physiological process that occurs in successive stages, each of which is dependent on the preceding one, and often producing a cumulative effect: an enzymatic cascade.

  3. CIDP: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy is an acquired immune-mediated inflammatory disorder of the peripheral nervous system. The disorder is sometimes called chronic relapsing polyneuropathy or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy.

  4. Connective Tissue: is a kind of biological tissue that supports, connects, or separates different types of tissues and organs of the body. It is estimated that 1out of 10 people have a Connective Tissue Disorder.

  5. Coumadin (Warfarin): This medicine is a blood thinner (anticoagulant). It helps to prevent new blood clots from forming, and helps to keep existing blood clots from getting worse.

  6. COPD: (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) is a group of lung diseases that cause obstruction of the airways. This results in a decreased ability to move air in and out of the lungs.

  7. Corticosteroid: any of a group of steroid hormones produced in the adrenal cortex or made synthetically. There are two kinds: glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids. They have various metabolic functions and some are used to treat inflammation.

  8. Enterically Coated: is a barrier applied to supplements and medications designed to hold together in acid conditions(stomach) and break down in non-acid conditions(intestines) and therefore release in the more effective area. Enzymes are fragile and need to be released into the intestines for greatest efficacy.

  9. Estrogen: Estrogens are hormones produced by the body. Among other things, estrogens help develop and maintain female organs.

  10. Extracelluar: the word extracellular means "outside the cell". Often, proteins present in the extracellular space are stored outside the cells by attaching to various Extracellular matrix components (Fibrin). In addition, Extracellular matrix(fibrin) products are also present in the extracellular space, especially in tissues undergoing remodelling. The enzymatic process to remove fibrin happens outside of the cell.

  11. FDA: Food and Drug Administration.

  12. Fibrin: an insoluble protein formed from fibrinogen during the clotting of blood. It forms a fibrous mesh that impedes the flow of blood.

  13. Fibrinolytic: The breakdown of fibrin, usually by the enzymatic action of plasmin.

  14. Fibrosis: The thickening and scarring of connective tissue, usually as a result of injury.

  15. Homeopathic: Medication, usually capsules or liquid mixtures (solutions) containing specific amount of an active ingredient (usually a plant or mineral) for treatment of disease. Homeopathic medicine, is a medical philosophy and practice based on the idea that the body has the ability to heal itself.

  16. Inflammatory diseases: A disease characterized by inflammation.

  17. Immunosuppression or Suppressed Immune system: Involves an act that reduces the activation or efficacy of the immune system.

  18. Lock and Key: Only the correctly sized key(enzyme) fits into the keyhole of the lock(fibrin). Enzymes have varying degrees of specificity. Some systemic enzymes have generalized specificity while others have absolute specificity(Xybrin).

  19. Lumbrokinase: Is a fibrinolytic enzyme present in the earthworm Lumbricus bimastus. It has been investigated as an antithrombotic agent.

  20. Nattokinase: Is an enzyme extracted and purified from a Japanese food called nattō. Nattō is made from fermented soybeans and has been eaten in Japan for many years.

  21. NSAID’s: (Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), also referred to as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents/analgesics (NSAIAs) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIMs)—are a class of drugs that provide analgesic and antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects, and, in higher doses, anti-inflammatory effects. I.E Ibuprofen (Mortin, Advil), Naproxen, Asprin, Voltaren, Acetaminophen (Tylenol).

  22. Oxygen Uptake: Is a measure of how much oxygen your body is consuming at any given time. It is usually expressed in milliliters (or sometimes in liters) of oxygen consumed per minute of exercise.

  23. Pathogen: An agent that causes disease, especially a living microorganism such as a bacterium or fungus.

  24. Prednisone: Is a synthetic corticosteroid drug that is particularly effective as an immunosuppressant drug. It is used to treat certain inflammatory diseases (such as moderate allergic reactions) and (at higher doses) some types of cancer, but has significant adverse effects. Because it suppresses the immune system, it leaves patients more susceptible to infections.

  25. Probiotics: Are bacteria that help maintain the natural balance of organisms (microflora) in the intestines. Probiotic reduce the growth of harmful bacteria and promote a healthy Immune and digestive system.

  26. Progressive Doctors: Doctors that study and implement the use of alternative medications that varies from traditional medical based protocols for conditions that have no proven effective therapies.

  27. Proteolytic Enzymes: Any enzyme that catalyzes the splitting of proteins into smaller peptide fractions and amino acids by a process known as proteolysis.

  28. Rheumatic: Disorders, or Rheumatism is a non-specific term for medical problems affecting the joints and connective tissue.

  29. Serrapeptase: Is derived from the silkworm. It is a commonly used drug in Japan and Europe. Serrapeptase has many clinical uses i.e fibrin dissolvent, reduction of pain and inflammation, blood thinner and is more commonly used in clinical applications for fibrin based conditions. (pulmonary fibrosis, peyronies, uterine fibroids).

  30. Systemic Enzymes: Are enzymes, consumed orally, with the intent of whole-body(systemic) effects.

  31. Tamoxifen: Is a synthetic drug used to treat breast cancer and infertility in women. It acts as an estrogen antagonist.
